24 HOURS OF STUDYING? OH NO!
FOUNDATION YEAR = HONEYMOON YEAR? |
Hello beautiful people! Did you know that UiTM Dengkil is a foundation centre for those who wish to further their foundation studies? If you know, can you imagine studying there with new facilities, happening vibes, friendly friends and supportive lecturers? Let me tell you how is the exact life there. Some of you might not know that I was a student in UiTM Dengkil and studying law. But the main point of this post is to share my experience throughout my asasi year so that my junior can take some useful points as guidance.
In my previous post, I basically have shared about studying law in Semester 1 (ASASI LAW IN UITM DENGKIL). Therefore, I believe that it's going to be more fun if I can share more about my life experience there. The experiences that I am going to share in this post are based on my journey in Semester 2 (final sem). To be honest, I had a really tough situation during semester 1. Well, it was not easy to adapt with new environment but what I always had in my mind was that I have to be strong. So, slowly I could adapt with the hectic schedules and different personalities.
Some people might say that foundation year is equivalent to honeymoon year. I don't know whether I should say yes or no because it depends on the individual. My personal point is that foundation year is not really a honeymoon year because you will never know how busy you can be in a week. Assignments, presentations, programs, club meetings and etc. Not only that, in UiTM Dengkil, every day and night will be filled with awesome and incredible events. All students are also encouraged to involve to join all the events to collect cocu marks. It is advisable for you to be active and participate in as much programs as you can because it does matter for your application in UPU.
NIGHT CLASS |
Sometimes, it is not only night class. It can be group discussion, video shooting and rehearsal. Students here are often required to equip themselves with a lot of skills such as soft skill, editing skill, research skill and presenting skill. It is vital for the students to understand that they need to sharpen their skills in order for them to be a good student. For me, a good student is not someone who can ace the exam paper only, but must all rounded. If someone who is excellent in their studies but lack of these important skills, it is such a huge waste. Learn and learn. Ask for help from others who can aid you to do your assignments or projects.
MOCK GOVERNMENT PRESENTATION
Another activity is mock government presentation. Well, there are a lot of other presentations which are one of them is under ELC092. There will be persuasive speech, forum and debate. Fret not, if you think you are not confident enough to speak, you will gain your confidence times by times because most of the activities and assignments require you to speak. Mock government is actually a group presentation which more like a live acting. Your group will be given a type of government and you need to prepare the scripts, props and questions for members of the floor. For my team, we have been assigned to do mock government for monarchy. Of course we have to study the characteristics of this system so that we can present it well. Since this is a group assignment, there is no such thing to exclude yourself from this activity or otherwise you will not get any marks. The best thing about doing this kind of presentation is that you will know your strengths and weaknesses indirectly. You will also know the meaning of cooperation and tolerance because for sure there will be some opinions which are not parallel with yours but you will know how to cooperate well.
MOOTING COMPETITION
I love being active in school and university. If there is any competition and programs, I will register my name to make sure that I will be able to involve. Alright, for your information, this mooting competition that I have participated happened in the evening, after the mock government presentation. Not only that, I also joined a program organised by Kelab Bahasa Melayu as a performer (syair performance). Therefore, I may conclude that I have to involve in mock government presentation in the morning, mooting competition in the evening and performance at night..in a same day. To be frank, I did not have proper meals that day. I skipped breakfast and able to have my lunch at 6 p.m. Then, I have to get ready for my performance. It was really exhausting but I enjoyed it very much. Can you imagine that you have to sacrifice your sleep and leisure times for this commitment? No times to reply all the texts and no times to waste your times? The key point here is to be smart while managing your times.
However, if you do not know what is mooting, mooting can be said as a court simulation whereby there will be plaintiff, defendant and a judge. You will be given a situation which relates to law. With the knowledge you have about law, you have to claim for damages (if you are plaintiff) or you will have to defend your client (if you are defendant). The question we received was mainly based on law of tort but still, we have to use our grey matters at the optimum level to win the case. Case law, Acts, Articles and more that related to the question are needed. As a junior counsel, I must say that it was a great experience searching for the materials and compile all the facts and judgments. We did our best but luck was not on our sides so we just managed to participate in preliminary stage.
NEON NIGHT 2020 |
Nevertheless, for your information, my batch (2019/2020) was not able to finish our asasi year officially due to Covid-19 pandemic. It was sad to know the fact that we did not have the chance to have a proper farewell. We have to learn all the syllabus and sit for final exams online. This moment when I am writing this, I suddenly remember all my clothes and foods in the locker. We are not allowed to go back to our university and take all the stuffs until there is a new announcement about this.
I think that is all for now. If I am given an opportunity to tell more, I will share to you from the moment I enter this foundation centre until the moment our Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin made an announcement about MCO. If you want to ask anything, don't forget to ask in the comment section below.

Hi, just wanna ask. Is it okay for a shy person like me to pursue studies in law course?
ReplyDeletemaybe im not the right person to answer this but you will gain your confidence time by time 😁
DeleteHi. Sorry for late replies.
DeleteTbh, no one was born being so confident. Confidence need to be gained. It doesn't matter where you will study but trust me, you will survive. Key point is always try your best and be yourself tau!! I tahu you akan jadi orang hebat one day :)
thankyou for the information , feel relieved now
ReplyDeleteHi! ala syarat minimum utk dapat asasi law dekat uitm/uia bgi lepasan SPM m
ReplyDeleteHi!
DeleteKalau time i dulu, must be 5As or 6As and above. Sejarah and English must be A. If I'm not mistaken, additional mathematics must be at least C+. But for your batch, I'm not very sure. However, the requirements won't change much, i guess.
what did you do when you rasa extra nervous mse present or mse mula2 msk dulu??awkward x?
DeleteHi!
DeleteTime mula2 masuk, first thing yang I buat is to not worry much. Seriously, nothing to worry. First day of class obviously will be a lil bit diam je semua but trust me, start sembang2 sikit. Btw, in Dengkil I must say, I do not merely have friends from law, but I do have friends from engineering, science and tesl as well. Mmg random nnti you akan kenal ramai especially through club/ society yg you masuk.
Then, waktu presentation pula it's very vital to be prepared. When you expect things to go smooth when you don't prepare yourself, it's wrong since the beginning. Take a deep breathe and just do your best! :)
Thanks for your information😊 Tolong doakan sya cemerlang dlm spm 2021 & dpt belajar law di Dengkil ❤
ReplyDeleteInsyaAllah. May all the best be with you!! :)
DeleteI also study law kptm at uitm Dengkil, but it's different for this year since we only on the online class. And I ketinggalan a lot since I'm not focus during the lecture. I would prefer physical class than online class so that I can more focus for the lecture 😞. If physical class at least I can more focus since lecturer can see what I do.
ReplyDeleteTrue, I understand how you feel. Some people prefer to study physically instead of virtually bcs we can absorb knowledge faster in that "learning environment". Anyways, if you need my help in terms of answering questions or anything you don't understand about what are you studying, let me know.

I'll try my best to guide you okay?

ReplyDeleteAssalamualaikum, nak tanya muet susah ke? And kalau boleh apa tips utk dptkan band 4 dan ke atas ye?
ReplyDeleteWaalaikumussalam. Personally, cara mudah nak score is banyakkan latihan. Macam saya dulu, saya check bahagian mana yang saya rasa boleh score tinggi, so banyakkan latihan part tu. Tapi tak bermaksud bahagian lain tu tak penting. Balance kan and kene pandai target.
DeleteContoh kalau awak jenis suka menulis, cuba set kan target utk part writing kene tinggi. Usually listening test macam takde masalah sangat unless hari ujian tu hujan or audio rosak. That one is something out of our control. For speaking, you must practice a lot and make sure to always give mature/rational points. The examiners usually baik je, so stay confident and calm.
Thank you❤

Hi!
DeleteFirst of all, I'm so sorry for not replying this earlier sebab akak dalam minggu study week and dah nak final exam.
Akak faham situasi sekarang ni memang ramai sangat struggle. Tahun spm pulak untuk awak kalini takkan berjalan macam sebelum ni and tbh akak pun setuju kalau awak kata odl ni susah.
I am so proud of you and I really hope you can keep doing your best. It's true that there will be times we feel unmotivated lagi2 during this pandemic crisis sebabnya we live in uncertainty and that's the reason kita mcm tak sure nak buat target mcm mana. My tips are if you feel so stressed and unmotivated, take a few moments and relax dulu. Clearkan all the mess and come back cleaner (physically and mentally).
Then, English is very important sebab most of the law schools will use English as the main medium and you must score for English. But jangan pressure yourself, bcs English isn't a parameter to measure your intelligent. Keep on reading, watching English movies, and start to write. Tbh, I personally think that using bombastic words does not helping you much, so I suggest you write a mature essay. So, kalau nak tahu macam mana essay tu, equip yourself dgn a lot of reading materials. Read online news etc.
For sejarah, jangan hafal but faham the story. Sejarah is actually the easiest paper to score kalau tahu cara nak tackle soalan. Make sure paper 3, awak score and prepared extra bahan, fahamkan soalan betul2. Time akak dulu, paper 3 dah start ada soalan kbat, so no choice but to apply the information from the textbook dkt answer sheet. Apply, not copy 100%. Paper 2, if you dah faham the whole textbooks f4 f5, insyaAllah boleh jawab. Basically paper 1, soalan akan pusing2 setiap tahun but time akak dulu, soalan dah tak sama sangat dgn past year but still answerable.
Adik, I really really hope you won't give up because awak tak start lagi. Percaya cakap akak, if you lepas SPM and you dapat masuk law school sbb niat yang betul, God will ease the journey for you. Remember, if you wanna be a lawyer, don't give up because in the future, you akan kene hadap banyak lagi. Just for once, do your best in SPM. How I wish I could tutor you for spm but sadly, I am too busy with current law degree life.
I pray for you ya! My best friend who is a top scorer back then in foundation year said "don't worry to much. Just do your part, and Allah knows how to do the rest".
Hii asaalammualaikum sis! I nk tnye tips untuk fluent in English cause I really interested to further my study in ASASI LAW. Since sy akan ambil spm this year so I really hope that I can score in English paper.
DeleteHi! waalaikumussalam.
DeleteTo be good in English is not easy but it's actually pretty achievable. For me, if you nak fluent in English then you must practice to speak, write, read and think in English . I understand that most of the schools these days are using BM as the main medium especially dalam silibus pelajaran. But, this shouldn't be your excuse to not improve your English. Masa I dekat sekolah dulu, I didn't have confidence to speak in English either. but what I did was I challenged myself to join any program which required me to speak in English. I was just like everyone else, I came from 0 and now alhamdulillah I am able to speak English fluently in front of anyone and can construct good essay too.
When you watch movies, opt for English subtitles and if there's any words you are not familiar with, jot down and find the meaning. Then, slowly go for no subtitles as this will train you to focus on what the actors are saying in English. If you are not sure how to pronounce certain words, google them. Trust me, to be good at something requires a lot of practices because obviously it won't happen in a night.
Also, idk if this works with you but I used to learn many languages at one time so that my brain can always think and be prepared. It teaches me how to stay focus too. For example, I did learn Mandarin while at the same time improving my English. Even though I have 0 confidence to speak Mandarin, I have helped a foreign from China buying stuff at 7E and I made a lot of new chinese friends. Now, I am studying German pula. So key point here is to always practice and be confident. Belajar banyak vocab baru sbb for me, you can only speak fast if you know more vocabs .
I suggest you to go read blog Pojiegraphy because I personally like and prefer the way he describes his travel blog. So, if you nak buat description essay, banyak new words dari blog tu you can apply dalam exam nanti. Good luck!
Hey! Saya nak tanya, kalau nak ambik law memang kena bagus dalam bahasa inggeris ke? Sebab saya tak berapa bagus dalam speaking tapi quite good dalam writing je ☹️
ReplyDeleteHi!
DeleteIt depends actually but mostly mmg semua students akan good in English. Jangan risau, maybe skrg awak tak mahir lagi to speak fluently but just target dulu masuk law school. Awak akan adapt dgn environment di law school and your English akan getting better days by days!
salam akak, kalau saya minat law syariah kena amik course law biasa dulu ke hehe sorry tak guna terms betul😅
ReplyDeleteWaalaikumussalam. Kalau nak sambung undang2 syariah, perlu amik law degree dulu. Selalunya lepas dh graduate law degree, they will further postgrad Diploma in Syariah law & practices. Then baru boleh practice as syariah lawyer.
Deleteassalamualaikum akak, saya nak tanya kalau nak sambung law syariah kena masuk law biasa dulu ke? sorry tak guna terms betul hehe
ReplyDeletehye akak! can saya contact akak untuk tny questions personal blh ke?
